Cookie & Tracking Technologies Policy
1. What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies?
Cookies are small text files that websites store on a user's device. Because ReAloud is a mobile app and not a website, it does not use cookies in the traditional technical sense. However, ReAloud uses functionally equivalent technologies within the mobile app — referred to in this Policy as "tracking technologies" — that serve similar purposes: storing user preferences, analysing app usage, and improving the experience.
2. Tracking Technologies We Use
2.1 Firebase Analytics (Google LLC)
Provider: Google LLC — firebase.google.com
Purpose: Statistical analysis of app usage in an aggregated, anonymous form. Helps us understand which features are most used, detect issues, and improve the User experience.
Data collected:
- In-app usage events (screens visited, actions performed).
- Aggregated demographic data (approximate age, country — never at an individual level).
- Device type, operating system, and app version.
- Session duration.
Retention: Up to 14 months under Firebase Analytics' standard configuration. Data is processed in aggregate and does not identify individual users. Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
2.2 Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC)
Provider: Google LLC — firebase.google.com/products/crashlytics
Purpose: Automatic detection and reporting of technical errors (crashes) to improve app stability.
Data collected:
- Error logs and technical exceptions.
- Device state at the time of the error (available memory, OS version).
- Anonymous installation identifier (not linked to personally identifiable data).
Retention: 90 days under Firebase Crashlytics' standard configuration.
2.3 Push Notification Token (Firebase Cloud Messaging)
Provider: Google LLC — firebase.google.com/products/cloud-messaging
Purpose: Sending service-related notifications (account activity, new features, reminders).
Data collected:
- Unique push notification token associated with your device.
- Notification status (delivered, opened).
You can disable push notifications at any time from: Device Settings → Notifications → ReAloud → Disable, or from within the ReAloud app under Settings → Notifications.
2.4 Local Storage (AsyncStorage / SharedPreferences)
Purpose: Storing user preferences directly on your device to improve the experience (keeping you signed in, language preferences, app settings). This data is stored exclusively on your device and is not transmitted to external servers. You can remove it by uninstalling the app.
3. Classification by Purpose
